Sweep — Bulk Delete Email by Sender for Gmail · Last updated 11 August 2026

Sweep does not collect, store, transmit, share or sell any of your data. It makes no network requests. There is no server, no account and no analytics.

What Sweep does with your email

Sweep reads two things from the Gmail page you already have open: the sender's address on the message you are viewing, and the "1–50 of 1,234" counter Gmail displays above your message list. The sender address is used immediately to build a Gmail search, and the counter is used to label a second set of pagination arrows.

Neither value is stored, logged or sent anywhere. Nothing else is read — not the subject, body, attachments, recipients or contacts of any message.

What Sweep stores

One thing: your filter preferences — the age limit, size limit, read state, and whether to keep starred or important mail. These are saved with chrome.storage.local on your own computer so you don't have to set them again on every cleanup.

This is local storage only. It is never synced to a Google account, never leaves the device, and contains no email data. Uninstalling the extension removes it.

What Sweep sends

Nothing. The extension contains no code that opens a network connection. You can confirm this yourself — the entire extension is one readable file:

Why there is no sign-in

Sweep does not use the Gmail API and never asks for access to your Google account. It works only with the Gmail page open in your browser, performing the same actions you could perform yourself: typing in the search box, ticking the select-all checkbox. This is why no OAuth consent screen ever appears, and why the extension has no technical means of reading your mailbox when your browser is closed.

Permissions

Deletion is yours

Sweep never deletes anything. It selects messages and hands them to Gmail's own Delete button, which you press. Deleted mail goes to Gmail's Trash and remains recoverable for 30 days. Sweep has no ability to permanently delete mail or empty the Trash.

Children

Sweep is a general-purpose utility, collects no data from anyone, and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices ever change, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the "last updated" date above will change with it. The revision history is public in the repository.
